HTC P3300 Communicator Based on the Windows Mobile 5 Platform

HTC P3300
HTC is launching a new communicator based on the Windows Mobile 5 platform, which the German operator T-Mobile decided to adopt as a successor of the popular Compact line (HTC Magician). The new HTC P3300 features revolutionary user-control, an integrated GPS receiver and FM radio. Naturally, the device has a few cons as well. After all, would this review be valuable if we did not try to discover them?

Key features

* The most recent version of Windows Mobile 5
* Integrated GPS receiver SiRF Star III
* Wi-Fi and EDGE support
* Comfortable single-hand control
* Integrated FM radio
* Small size and low weight
* microSD memory card slot

Main disadvantages

* Slow processor
* No 3G connectivity
* No standard audio output
* Poor-quality camera
* Trackball does not run smoothly
* No Infrared port

MDA Compact (HTC Magician) became a part of T-Mobile’s portfolio at the beginning of 2005. It entered the market as a revolutionary device among communicators based on the Windows Mobile platform. Its crucial advantage was its small size against the forerunners like MDA II (HTC Himalaya) or MDA III (HTC Blue Angel), which could only be carried hooked on a belt or in a case. All communicators before MDA Compact were considered "big" as well as “non-practical” due to the lack of important software functions. Along with its modest size MDA Compact offered an improved interface for contact dialing and a user-friendly, no-stylus mode of typing SMS.
It lacked Wi-Fi and EDGE, but 2 years ago it was not a big deal.

The Nokia N93 Was First Officially Announced

Nokia N93
The Nokia N93 has been on the market for some time now and it did arouse a lot of commotion when it was first officially announced. The extraordinary Carl-Zeiss optical zoom combined with a Vario-Tessar lens was enough to rocket the anticipation of Nokia fans to the skies. This combined with video capturing in VGA resolution at a high framerate is an outstanding achievement that not before long was something reserved for the digital camcorders realm.

Key features:

* 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and 3x optical zoom
* Video recording in VGA resolution@30fps
* Twist and Shoot clamshell form factor
* Symbian OS 9.1 S60 3rd Edition UI
* miniSD card slot
* Stereo FM radio
* 50 MB internal memory
* Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, Infrared, UPnP and TV-out connectivity options
* Rather comfortable keyboard

Main disadvantages:

* Large and heavy
* Picture and video quality not so great
* Optical zoom buzzing gets recorded in videos

The phone is supposed to be delivered in a package along with a Nokia stereo headset HS-23, a Nokia USB cable CA-53, a Nokia TV-out cable CA-64U, a wrist strap, a pouch, and a 128 MB miniSD memory card. All this is market dependent of course, so take that information with a grain of salt.

Dubbed as multimedia computer, the Nokia N93 was highly awaited by our team since the specs sounded more than promising. The eagerness to try it first hand built up as time went on and the first sample pictures and videos captured with the phone started to pop up here and there. The mobile is supposed to be one of the top multimedia phones on the market and it was even voted European media phone of the Year 2006-2007. You can understand our impatience to test it and since you are reading this review, you probably share it, too.

Samsung E720 New Design in Produck

Samsung E720
Samsung has created the new E720 model by picking up the design of the celebrated clamshell E700 and the complex equipment of the D500 slider. The new clamshell phone is boosted with functions; it has two color displays, megapixel camera, Bluetooth, huge memory and MP3 player.

Key features

* Internal display with resolution of 176×220 pixels and 262K colors
* Outer OLED 65K colors display
* Attractive design
* Megapixel camera, which also shoots good quality videos
* MP3 player with control keys on the front cover
* Bluetooth

Main disadvantages

* No memory card slot
* No infrared port
* No ringing profiles

The well smoothed path

In terms of design, Samsung E720 walks in the direction set by the original E700 model. I am sure you recall the blue-silver clamshell with no antenna, which was decorated with sharp edges and a good quality OLED display set on the front cover. Its design was dateless, so it is no wonder Samsung still draws inspiration from it. No wrong moves, so to say…

The unusual and original blue color, which was E700's reserved mark, has been substituted by anthracite, dark gray. The color together with the steel silver frames make the phone look harmonized and quite "industrial" - giving clear signals that what we are having in front of us is not just a toy.

The most attractive element of the front cover is the constantly beaming small display defined by a solid silver frame. In the upper part of the frame is embedded the camera lens, surrounded by the lighting diode; in the bottom part you will find engraved the manufacturer's logo and a set of three control keys for the MP3 player. The rest of the front cover is made of anthracite; its surface is matt which makes fingerprints invisible. The design of the margins is dark silver.

The joint area from the side of the front cover is quite rounded. The joint is remarkably solid and shows no contra reactions, no matter if open or closed. The moving portion moves fluently, with its upper part gently bottoming its final location. Due to the accentuated grooves between both its parts, the phone can be easily opened with one hand only. The phone is relatively small, with a size of 91×45×23 mm. Its weight - 90 g - is also standard for a clamshell phone.

Phone's sides are silver and dark. On the right one there is an oblong button that starts the camera; on the opposite side you will find the standard swinging volume button and a connector for the earphones which is secured with a cover. Do not have any fears about the cover for it is mounted to the phone with two rubber bands. The connector is not a standard jack one, which is a pity for the jack is usually an asset for any mobile equipped with a MP3 player. Instead, you will find an atypical Samsung connector which slightly resembles mini USB. The standard system connector is placed on the bottom edge of the device and is also secured with a cover.

The back cover is a part of the accumulator and is also anthracite colored. It is decorated with the plastic logo of the manufacturer and its internet address: www.samsungmobile.com. The eye for interlacing a strip is mounted in its upper part. Battery is said to support up to 330 minutes of phone calls or 200 hours of stand-by work. Unfortunately, we have not had the chance to check this information yet. While we were making intensive tests with the phone, however, I had to sometimes charge it twice a day. The charger delivered with the phone has a diode, which notifies you about the charging process of the accumulator.

Sony Ericsson W800 The Walkman Phone

sony ericsson w800
We have tested the so eagerly waited walkman from Sony Ericsson. This orange jewel has a memory card of 512 MB capacity, excellent earphones as well as a camera and function menu that are as brilliant as those of Sony Ericsson K750.

Key features

* Fully functional MP3 player
* MP3 sound of excellent quality
* First-rate earphones delivered with the phone
* Very good auto focus camera
* Fine display
* Built-in radio with RDS
* USB charging
* Stylish design

Main disadvantages

* No EDGE
* No standard support for USB Mass Storage
* No alternative color versions

Design

The frame around the cover glass of the display is underlain with silver dots. The glass touches its margins, going as far as the context keys. In the dark the display is lighted with orange glare, which fades in the margins. In such a moment any artist's heart would rejoice.
I am turning the phone face down. Why? The thing is that you won't find any carved lens cover on the back side of W800. In this phone the camera is hidden behind a tiny round window, which moves really promptly, just in the way one would expect from such a first-rate camera. Oh, yes, I know, phone is not a camera... But just have a look - the new Sony Ericsson model does not resemble a phone from behind at all
W800 is equipped with two lighting diodes. They can be used as a lamp too. It is possible to activate them either during the photographic process, or directly from the menu. The diodes can illuminate either constantly, or for a period of one minute only. They can also send out an SOS signal. The intensity of the diodes is impressive. At night, for example, they manage to throw light on an entire room. In the bottom part of the circle there is an unsecured cut-out for both the ringing speaker and the loud handsfree. W800's sound performance does not become worse even if you place it on a table - this is possible due to the design of the back cover, which stands out a bit in the area of the small circle. In a result, the speaker does not get "suffocated" by the table's surface
