The Motorola Flipout is a rotator phone

Motorola FlipoutSometimes phone designs come off as unusual at first, yet end up being quite revolutionary that it sets very high standards for those who follow. The Motorola Razr was one such phone in a long line of distinguished phones that had shaped the mobile communications industry. The Motorola Flipout smartphone is one of those phones that have people scratching their heads: will it be a follow up success to the Razr's well recognized design? According to some Motorola Flipout Reviews, it just might be.

The Motorola Flipout is a rotator phone, which means that the keyboard only becomes visible when you swivel it out from underneath the screen. The screen by the way is a fully tactile 2.8 inch touchscreen. Powered by Android 2.1 (the Froyo), this powerful smarphone is more than a match for today's smarphone market.

The keyboard part of the phone is quite spacious for such a small looking smartphone; four rows of keys minimizes duplicate function buttons, and there's even enough space for a directional button at the lower left of the keyboard. Speaking of keyboards, the Flipout also has a virtual keyboard that you can use even with the phone un-swiveled, but the small screen space makes the virtual keyboard just impractical to use.

For connectivity, the Flipout also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB 2.0 access slot. It can use microSD cards for up to 32gigs. It can run on multiple networks, so it won't be a factor whether your network is running HSDPA or GSM exclusive. The Flipout also comes with a 3 megapixel camera and has enhanced image editing tools onboard.

You don't need to know from any Motorola Flipout Review that the Flipout comes with all the bells and whistles that people would expect of an Android level smartphone from Motorola: proximity and light sensors, pinch to zoom features, widgets, mp3 and videos, etc. Some people may find that hard to digest due to its small size, but it really is a smartphone-albeit smaller. Its size is no doubt the point of contention for many users. Sure it has all these great features, but being a smartphone at that, the screen size just comes out as lacking, and the 320x240 resolution doesn't help as well.

What some experience Motorola users might not like however is that it also comes bundled with the MotoBlur feature-not entirely surprising with Motorola smartphones, but with the native utility and power of Android, the MotoBlur might just be seen as something of a step backward or a stalled concept at best. In fairness, MotoBlur has improved significantly since it was first released, and again, won't really be an issue for some users, particularly if they haven't had any Android devices or had problems with the MotoBlur feature in the past.

Although rotator phones are nothing new, this is probably the first Android rotator Smartphone ever manufactured. And while many Motorola Flipout Reviews will call to attention the novelty of the eye catching novelty of the design, it still comes off as a standout among the smartphone crowd. Whether this will be a good thing is purely up to the just-emerging smarphone market.
