The Resistance Is Not Futile for Motorola Defy

The Resistance Is Not Futile for Motorola Defy - As smartphones get more and more sophisticated (and some would say, complicated) they also seem to get more and more expensive. Which means that if you lose your phone to the accidental table drop or (heaven forbid) it is stolen then off your phone goes to the smartphone funeral pyre, ready to meet its maker in smartphone heaven (i.e. the landfill). Fortunately, the Motorola Defy will not ever become one of those phones, as this review will show you.

The Motorola Defy is built to resist most stress that would kill any old regular phone, but still look amazingly gorgeous while it's doing it. Knowing its key selling point and looking at it for the first time, anybody will be hard pressed not to think of James Bond (the invincible Daniel Craig version, not the Timothy Dalton version). It is stylish and takes your breath away, but is tough as a bag of nails.

Its front display panel is made of beautiful yet tough Gorilla Glass, which is known for its scratch and impact resistant and over all durability. It's dustproof as well as waterproof. Looking at the phone straight off the box though, you really wouldn't think that this is the kind of phone that can take a pounding. It has a good tactile feel, and the screen is adequately responsive and doesn't miss a tap.

The whole thing measures 4.2 inches long by 2.3 inches wide, and comes off looking quite slim at 0.5 inch think-a fantastic feat for a smartphone. It has rounded corners with rubberized back panel and a white durable plastic border along its battery cover. Although it would have been nicer if it was all black, but some people might appreciate the touch of white as it lends the unit a bit of a sporty look and makes it look the part of a "tough phone".

The Motorola Defy comes bundled with Android 2.1-a slight oddity as it could have well came with the latest Android 2.2. Still, the platform handles the device very well, and there's nothing to complain about it in this or any other Motorola Defy review I have read. Having access to the Android Market give you the choice of thousands of games, apps and widgets which help make the Defy a winner by themselves.

The Defy also comes with the fantastic MotoBlur interface, what with it being a Motorola smartphone. One good thing about the MotoBlur is that it has a backup feature that protects your phone from accidental wipeouts and theft by Remote Wipe. You can even locate your phone via GPS, and if it isn't in the same vicinity (or city) that you're in; you can simply delete everything keeping your contacts and personal sensitive information safe and secure.

The Motorola Defy's interface also has a universal inbox that lets you see all your messages from all different sources all at once. Your sms, emails, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter which is a fantastic feature. You can also send one universal message which will instantly update all of your social media channels. Glancing at your Contacts also lets you see recently updated information about your contact, up to his/her latest tweet.

The Defy also comes with a 5 megapixel camera, mp3 player, Bluetooth and WiFi. All of that's pretty standard nowadays for a smartphone. It also has 2Gb worth of internal memory and an expansion slot capable of housing microSD's up to 32gb, something the music freak in us would definitely want.

Any Motorola Defy user would rate this as a wonderful mid to high range smartphone, and they would be right to do so. There's just too much good thing going into this rugged smartphone that you will be hard pressed to nitpick it to bits. Definitely something you'd want for your Christmas wishlist-if you could wait that long.
